“Lo spirito si elevava, le donne svenivano, ed era così che nuovi dei nascevano.”

Robin Williams

Head of Neptune

Sculpture in limestone

Rome 2nd century AD

h. cm 27

The Roman god is represented frontally, with a furrowed brow, symmetrical, thick, wavy hair and a flowing beard. The male face, with rare power of expression and an imperious and penetrating gaze is rendered with a wealth of detail that affirm the artist’s skill. This work was probably part of a full-length statue.

The head recalls the mythological portraiture models of the 2nd century AD

Perfect state of conservation.
