Pair of busts portraying Jesus and Saint John the Baptist in conversation

Sculpture in walnut

h. cm 72

These two marvellous busts were sculpted, as they were imagined by Giovanni Marchiori, in conversation with each other. This idea is confirmed by Jesus and Saint John’s slightly reclined heads and their gazes that meet.

Remarkable facial expression and minute detail of their wavy, intertwining locks of hair. The idealisation of the scene is confirmed by a beardless Jesus and Saint John the Baptist.

Ribbed, flared and rounded bases. Perfect state of conservation.
