Study of a Head

Oil on canvas

Cm 47,5 x 34,5

Govaert Flink is considered one of the greatest exponents of the “Dutch Golden Age”, to the point that he was defined by Joachim Von Sandrart as one of Rembrandt’s finest pupils.

This study of a head forms part of the Master’s most famous work, in which the influence of Rembrantesque models clearly emerges.

The face, undoubtedly painted from life, has vigorous brushstrokes loaded with texture and light effects.

The painting can be dated to before the mid 17th century.

Excellent state of conservation.
