Portrait of a bishop

Oil on canvas

Cm 98,5 x 78,5

Sheet in preparation

A powerful psychological study marks this “Portrait of a bishop” by Jacopo Amigoni.

A typical feature of the latter is the figure’s contrapposto which gives it spontaneity and a sense of movement.

The short modulation of the shadows, which gives the facial complexion a natural appearance, the lightness of the fabrics, and the fine detail of the lace can be found in many other portraits by the Venetian master.

Excellent state of conservation.
