“Maria: la terra vergine cercata dagli alchimisti.”

Friedrich Hebbel

Sedes Sapientiae

15th century central Italian art

Sculpture in polychrome stucco

h. cm 130

The Virgin is represented seated in a solemn yet natural pose that enhances her majestic and refined beauty. Her crowned head is covered by a white veil that falls down over her shoulders. She is wearing a red tunic and blue mantle which create, on the lower part, an intricate play of drops and folds.

The Child seated on her knee wears a white tunic and holds a sacred text in his hands.

This monumental sculpture is in a perfect state of conservation and in its original polychromy.
